The purpose of this blog is to recall stories of my years as a Polysomnographic Technologist as well as share my views on sleep and health in general. The job of a PSG Tech (Sleep Tech) is one that is misunderstood by many inside and out of the healthcare community. The view that a sleep professional merely "watches people sleep" is quite prevalent among hospital administrators, nurses, and even physicians quick to pigeon-hole those in this growing field of medicine.
Unlike physicians and nurses with all their political power in the healthcare system PSG techs are generally driven to conform and not ask any difficult questions of those in charge.
What makes me more of an oddity is that I don't know my place. I ask difficult questions at inopportune times. Although I treat people with respect I do not place anyone on a pedestal.
My years in sleep technology have given me the opportunity to meet many interesting people.
I've come to realize that although good sleep is integral to good health, sleep is also something easily shortchanged or ignored by many. This is my story of something I truly love; that being a good restful night's sleep.
Can't wait to hear more. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge...=0)
